Marcelino has praised his team’s first-half performance, but is disappointed with their lack of success in the final third
Marcelino García Toral appeared before the media to analyse the draw against Getafe CF (1-1) at the Estadio de la Cerámica: “We saw a competitive Villarreal in the second half against a great team. And in the first half we were far superior. It’s not easy to assimilate the fact that we didn’t manage to score a goal after such a good first half. We generated a lot and we were much better-“
Despite the draw, he was proud of the work of his players: “”We looked very good in the first half. But we need to be more clinical. We lack efficiency in front of goal. We shot 20 times at home against a good opponent. That’s why we’re satisfied. What we’re not satisfied with is not being able to get the win.”
Marcelino also acknowledged that Getafe hurt the team by scoring a goal when they were playing at their best: “Getafe are one of the best teams in the league in terms of attacking strategy. In the goal we could have done a bit more. They scored in the first one they had and when we had the game where we wanted it to be. In the second half they did have some dangerous chances and the game became more even. We need to improve. We were penalised again by set pieces. We must put a lot of emphasis on them.”
