Emery emphasises that his side must be true to who they are in the derby against Valencia CF

Villarreal CF manager, Unai Emery, appeared in front of the media at midday today to analyse the build-up to the derby against Valencia CF at the Estadio de la Cerámica (Sunday, 4pm CEST). The Yellows boss recognised that it will be a difficult clash against the side from the city of Valencia, but highlighted that his squad are eager to face the challenge: “It’s an important game that means a lot for us and coming away with three points will be tough, but we’re convinced we can do so as a result of the good work we’ve been carrying out. Our aim is clear and it is nothing more than to keep making progress.”

In terms of analysing the opposition, Emery warned of Valencia’s potential and stated the key to the game will be stopping them from playing: “We expect to come up against a Valencia side that will get stuck in and be organised all over the pitch. They have talented players and a high level of commitment. They will try to impose their style on us and we have to stop them from doing that.”

For that reason, the manager wants his players to be focused for the full 90 minutes: “We have to be constant, impose our tempo and our individual and collective abilities. Take advantage of the good form we’re in to get our players to perform to their best in every action.”

Lastly, Unai Emery regrets the unavailability of starting players for this important tie, but he guarantees that no matter who plays they will contribute their best qualities: “As we work we always have in mind that we may not have players available. Now, a new opportunity has arrived for the players that are working day in and day out with us and we want them to perform to a high level.”
