The experienced Argentinean footballer Mariela Coronel comes in to strengthen the midfield

Villarreal CF and Mariela Coronel have reached an agreement for the experienced Argentinean footballer to represent Villarreal Women for the 2020/21 season in the Reto Iberdola.

Coronel is the ninth summer signing for for Sara Monforte’s side, after the arrivals of María Cienfuegos (midfielder), Olivia Oprea (defender), Elena de Toro (goalkeeper) Kareylen Capdevilla (winger), Rubí Soto (forward), Paula Arce (defender), Sara Martínez (midfielder) and Jenifer Gimenez (defender).

The Yellows are working on building an exciting team for next season, which will see ten players from last season continue: Salma Paralluelo, Lara Mata, Sheila Guijarro, Sara Medina, María Sanjuán, Laura Royo, Cristina Díaz, Bea Prades, Yolanda Palomino and Irene Miguélez. 

Experience in midfield

Mariela del Carmen Coronel (20.06.81, Santiago del Estero, Argentina) can play in central midfield or on the wing. Throughout her long career, she has played for Independiente, San Lorenzo, Zaragoza CFF, Atlético Madrid, Madrid CFF and Granada CF. She has played, with her country, in three World Cups (2003, 2007 and 2019) and in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
