The Yellows hand out grants to student athletes at the university.

Villarreal CF’s institutional relations manager, Tino Traver, was the man in charge of handing out the ‘Cátedra Villarreal CF del Deporte’ scholarships to elite athletes from the Jaume I University (UJI) in Castellón in a ceremony hosted by UJI dean Eva Alcón, which took place in the auditorium in the new Health Sciences faculty.

The ceremony also saw the involvement of Carlos Hernando (UJI Sports Services manager), Inmaculada Rodríguez (Student Body and Social Compromise vice-dean) and Rafael Mayo (Campus and Healthy Life vice-dean).

During the ceremony, the representative of the Yellow Submarine underlined the aims of the club to carry on growing, “and one of the best ways of doing it is to connect with the society in Castellón, which is the meaning of the Endavant project.” With regards to the scholarships, Traver underlined the wishes of the club that the main part of the economic resources were precisely for grants for athletes, with a total of 30,000€ this year going to 50 athletes who have both academic and sporting merits.

Villarreal is currently carrying out its Endavant Formació initiative. The club has agreements with different establishments, as is the case with the UJI, the Cardenal Herrera University (CEU) and IES Miralcamp. The clubs wants to show through this its clear support for helping student athletes grow, through formation, investigation, diffusion of knowledge and innovation as much in a social environment as a sporting one.

One of the main lines of work of the agreement with the UJI – started in December 2012 and called ‘Endavant Cátedra Villarreal CF del Deporte’ – is that of the grants for elite athletes. With six years of scholarships already behind us, the programme for helping the UJI’s elite sportspeople has gone from 10,000€ at the start to the current 30,000€ level. In this occasion, Villarreal CF has shared the 30,000€ between 50 elite UJI athletes.

The Villarreal CF scholarships for Jaume I University sportspeople started in the 2012/13 academic year, so this is the sixth year:

  • 2012/2013: 10,000€
  • 2013/2014: 15,000€

  • 2016/2017: 30,000€
