The Yellows Reserves beat a feisty Prat side thanks to goals by Leo Suárez and Carlos Martínez

The Villarreal B team picked up a hard-fought victory against AE Prat at the Mini Estadi and continue their fight to get into the play-off zone. The Mini Submarine beat the feisty Catalonian side thanks to goals by Leo Suárez and Carlos Martínez, making Padilla’s goal worthless. A special mention must be given to the Villarreal B team’s Argentinean centre back, Marcos Mauro, who returned to the side after coming back from a four-month-long injury.

The Yellows started the match well. Pressuring high and creating many goal scoring chances. In fact, the opening goal came after just two minutes of play. Carlos Martínez played a ball out to the left wing, Cantalapiedra put a sublime cross in to the middle of the box and Leo Suárez hit a rocket of a volley into the back of the net. An absolutely brilliant goal.

The second half was more intense and the locals managed to equalize. Then, the home side took control of the match and their second and decisive goal came in the 63rd minute with a great header by Carlos Martínez, that the visitor’s defender Aitor Lario was unable to clear.

The Mini Submarine took the three points and remain on the doorstep of the play-off spots. The Villarreal B team’s next match is away against Espanyol B (Saturday, 6pm CET).
