The Reserves came back to beat Cornellà with goals by Mario (2), Carlos Martínez and Pau

The Villarreal B kicked off the year in style. Paco López’s men came away with the win in a tough match against UE Cornellà and remain at the foot of the ‘play-off’ spots. The Yellows Reserves played, what might well be, their best match of the season after scoring four goals. It should also be mentioned that they had two goals disallowed by Carlos Martínez and Mario González.

The first 45 minutes were dominated by the Yellows. Even though the referee disallowed two goals by Carlos Martínez and Mario, the Reserves had to come from behind after a first minute goal scored by Puerto. But the scoreboard was not in favour of the visitors for long. In the 8th minute, Mario scored the opening goal for the home side, after a great assist by Aitor Cantalapiedra. Then, two minutes later, the striker got himself on the score sheet again, this time with a header from a corner kick.

The second half was similar to the first. Carlos Martínez increased the lead over Cornellà with a brilliantly cool finish. However, just minutes later the Catalonian side closed the gap with a goal by Lulu after a scramble in the box.

The visitors were going all out for the equalizer, but Pau’s goal stopped them in their tracks. The Yellows centre back scored the fourth (4-2) firing his header into the top corner.
