The Yellows were beaten by Real Madrid in the last minute of the game after a goal by Bruun
Villarreal Women knew they had to suffer against second-placed Real Madrid in the F League. And so they did until the final whistle of the game, when Bruun gave Real Madrid the victory.
Villarreal Women fought tooth and nail for the first 45 minutes of the game. Defensive work and hard work were the key to ensuring that the Yellows did not concede a goal despite Real Madrid’s constant attempts to open the scoring. In fact, in the fifth minute, Svava crashed a powerful shot against the crossbar. Shortly after, Olga Carmona sent the ball wide and, with almost no time to breathe, Zornoza tried to surprise with a long-range shot, taking advantage of Elena de Toro’s advanced position. However, Sara Monforte’s side withstood absolutely every onslaught, with spectacular work inside the box from Raquel Morcillo and Cristina Cubedo, as well as the solidity shown de Toro under the sticks.
The second half followed a similar pattern to the first half. Sara Monforte’s side had to remain very solid defensively, creating a couple of dangerous chances. The clearest fell to Kayla McKenna, but her effort ended up in the hands of Misa. The blow for Villarreal Women came in the last minute of the game when, in the 90th minute, Bruun managed to beat the keeper and give the home side the victory.
