The midfielder says it will be strange to play behind closed doors

Health comes first. This lunchtime Villarreal midfielder Manu Trigueros analysed the measures taken by the Supreme Council for Sports which will see the next two LaLiga matchdays played behind closed doors due to the COVID-19 health crisis. “We understand what’s happening and we respect the decision. You have to put health ahead of football. It is going to be strange with no fans in the stadium,” he underlined.

For Trigueros, it’s a new situation for everyone: “It’s going to be something new for us. You’ll hear the team-mates shouting to each other more. It will be an anecdote. It’s a new situation for everyone. Let’s see if between everyone, we’re able to contain what’s happening. We’re calm because the people who are in the know are calm. If it advances, there will have to be more measures introduced.”

With regards to the sporting side, Trigueros was frustrated with the defeat against Leganés: “Against Leganés, we lost a great opportunity. We went away in a lot of pain. In the first half, we had a number of chances and in the second half they fought back. We could have cut the difference between teams above us and we didn’t. Now in Vigo, it’s like a another final, against a team who are playing to survive. We have to win however possible because our aim is to play in Europe. We need to pick our heads up. There are games left to turn the situation around.”

Next up for the Yellows is a game at Balaídos (Saturday, 9pm CET). “We have been able to win a number of matches in very tough stadiums. We want to get back in the European spots to be there until the end of the season. Now we’re only focusing on beating Celta. We’re going to go game by game. The difference in terms of points is small, and what we need to do is win games. If we win our next three, we’ll be back in the that fight,” he concluded.
