Villarreal B earn a point in Tenerife despite two sending offs after conceding a goal in stoppage time
What a way for Villarreal B to fight! Villarreal B played almost the entire match with ten men (nine at the end) on the pitch due to Collado’s sending off, but they came close to beating CD Tenerife (1-1) with a good goal from Tasende in the early stages of the second half. Enric Gallego equalised in stoppage time.
Millán had the first clear chance of the game when he chested down a long ball and tried his luck against Juan Soriano, but the striker’s shot was easily blocked by a defender from the home side. However, things were soon to get complicated for the Mini Submarino when Diego Collado was sent off after 20 minutes.
Despite being reduced to ten men so early on and being forced to give up the ball at certain stages, Miguel Álvarez’s side were not intimidated, and put a good stop to the two chances that Tenerife had in the first half, both of which came from Gallego. A few minutes before the break, Millán received a perfect through ball from Sergio Lozano and almost beat the keeper.
The Mini Submarine did not stop fighting and stood up to the opposition at all times. So much so that, after the restart, Tasende gave the Yellows the lead, taking advantage of an assist from Lozano, who led the counter-attack, and beating Soriano with a great finish.
It was not all plain sailing as the home side twice hit the post. On the yellow side, substitute Pacheco could have scored the second goal for the visitors. However, the Yellows suffered another red card for Del Moral in stoppage time and, in the following play, Enric Gallego equalised. Despite all the adversity, the B team earned another important point.
