Cheryshev scored again fro Russia, N’Diaye was a starter for Senegal and Bacca came on for Colombia

Three Villarreal CF players were key figures for their national teams yesterday at the Russia 2018 World Cup. Denis Cheryshev scored again for Russia against Egypt (3-1) taking him to total of three goals in Russia’s first two matches of the world’s biggest tournament. The host nation qualified for the Round of 16 after goals by Ahmed Fathy (og), Cheryshev and Dziuba secured their place in the next round. Salah scored Egypt’s goal from the penalty spot. Villarreal’s midfielder started the match and played 74 minutes, when he was replaced by Kuzyaev.

For his part, Alfred N’Diaye also helped his nation to a win in Senegal’s opening match against Poland (1-2). The Villarreal centre midfielder started the game and played 87 minutes, leaving the field of play for Kouyaté. Senegal’s goals were scored by Cionek (og) and Niang. Krychowiak scored for Poland.

Lastly, Carlos Bacca came on for Colombia in their opening match. The Yellow Submarine striker came off the bench in the 70th minute for teammate Izquierdo, but he could not save his country from an opening defeat against Japan. The final result was heavily influenced by the events in the opening minutes, as ‘La Roca’ Sánchez was sent off in the 3rd minute for a hand ball and Kagawa converted Japan’s penalty kick. Osako for Japan and Quintero for Colombia.
