Javi Calleja underlines that a win against RCD Espanyol would put the Yellows in a comfortable place to be fighting for the European spots

Villarreal manager Javi Calleja appeared in front of the press to analyse the build up to this Sunday’s game against RCD Espanyol (4pm CEST). The Yellows boss highlighted that the team is going into the match keen on getting back into league action: “We can’t wait for LaLiga to be back. We want to put in a good performance in Cornellà and get three points away from home.”

The Yellows boss underlined the importance of getting the points, but wanted to remind everyone that the season has only just started: “There are three important points in play, but it’s still early to speak about objectives. There are a lot of games left, although it’s true that winning away from home would leave us in a comfortable situation fighting for the European sport. At the moment, we’re only focused on beating Espanyol, which would let us go into the coming games with a lot of confidence.”

Calleja is expecting a distinct Espanyol from recent games: “We’re expecting a changed opponent. They have a new manager who will be looking for new solutions, They will have a different mentality.”

Finally, the Yellows boss underlined that the key to winning in Cornellà will be to stop the home side from playing and to try and get Villarreal playing their style of football: “This week we focused on that aspect. It’s important that they don’t feel comfortable on the itch and that they don’t get into our half,” he concluded.
