Javi Calleja applauds the unconditional support of the Yellows fans who travelled to Girona
Villarreal manager Javi Calleja analysed the important Yellows victory against Girona FC (0-1). The head coach dedicated the win to the fans who accompanied the Yellow Submarine in their trip to Girona: “This win is for the fans. We dedicate it to them for their trust and unconditional support.”
Furthermore, the Yellow Submarine boss hailed the commendable work of his team, who put in an impressive performance against the Catalan side: “It’s a very important result. We knew it was a crucial match. A win meant we would leave the relegation zone. We managed the game well and we knew how to play on the counterattack well when we had space. We read the match well and we didn’t turn off.”
On the other hand, Calleja underlined the performance by the Yellows in the last moments of the match, when the home side most piled on the pressure: “We had to be intelligent in the last few minutes, defending long balls. We had two chances to kill the game off. We didn’t doubt. We were convincing when the match needed us to be. We’re having a tough year, until the last season, we need to be focused, and that’s what we were today.”
