A total of 22 Villarreal players have played in the world’s most prestigious national team tournament

Villarreal CF will once again be represented at a World Cup. In Qatar 2022, up to five Villarreal CF players will defend the interests of their respective national teams. Pau Torres and Yeremy Pino, with Spain; Juan Foyth and Gero Rulli, with Argentina; and Nicolas Jackson, with Senegal, will fight to become world champions.

Previously, other club legends such as Marcos Senna, Juan Román Riquelme, Giuseppe Rossi and Juanpi Sorín took part in the World Cup as Villarreal players.

Here are the 22 players who have been called up to a World Cup squad as a Yellow:

  • 2006 Germany World Cup: Marcos Senna (Spain), Antonio Valencia (Ecuador), Guille Franco (Mexico), Juan Pablo Sorín (Argentina) and Juan Román Riquelme (Argentina).
  • 2010 South Africa World Cup: Joan Capdevila (Spain), Nilmar da Silva (Brazil), Giuseppe Rossi (Italy), Diego Godin (Uruguay) and Jozy Altidore (USA).
  • 2014 Brazil World Cup: Giovani Dos Santos (Mexico) and Javier Aquino (Mexico).
  • 2018 Russia World Cup: Denis Cheryshev (Russia), Antonio Rukavina (Serbia), Carlos Bacca (Colombia), Salem Al Dawsari (Saudi Arabia) and Alfred N’Diaye (Senegal).
  • 2022 Qatar World Cup: Pau Torres (Spain), Yeremy Pino (Spain), Juan Foyth (Argentina), Gero Rulli (Argentina) and Nicolas Jackson (Senegal).
