The defender from Vila-real has become a key player for the Submarine in an unforgettable 2019 for the home-grown Yellow

An extraordinary 2019 for Pau Torres. The Villarreal CF defender has lived a dream year in his sporting career. During his first season in the first team, the home-grown Yellow has become a key player of Javi Calleja’s game plan. Not surprisingly, the Yellow, who scored on his debut dressed in yellow against CA Osasuna, has played the most minutes for the Submarine this season (1666 minutes).

If that wasn’t enough, Pau debuted with the Spanish national team, scoring a goal with his chest as soon as he entered the pitch against Malta. To round off 2019, the Yellow defender extended his contract with the club until 2024.

“It has been a very important year. I was playing at Malaga, but I returned home to play in the Primera División and I was able to debut with the Spanish National Team. 2019 has been very special and I will always keep it in my memory, but I hope that 2020 will be even better,” explains the Spanish international.

After the important victories against Sevilla and Getafe, Pau Torres points out that the team dreams of reaching European position: “We want to fight for that aim. We have potential and we must prove it.” To continue with the upward approach, the Submarine has already been working since this Monday with the aim of achieving a positive result against Real Sociedad: “They are a very young team that plays football very well. They interpret the game very well in both attack and defence and they stand out for their strength. We have shown that we are capable of winning difficult games and we do not set ourselves any limits when competing away from home.”

Finally, the Yellow No.4 asks for the Yellow fans to accompany the team on their visit to San Sebastián this weekend: “The date falls well for the fans, since they can make different plans for the Three Kings’ Day. Monday is a holiday, so I encourage people to travel, and spend the weekend there and come to cheer us on, as we will fight for a triumph.”
