Villarreal B once more beat a top-flight side, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and stay unbeaten in pre-season
Villarreal B won once more in pre-season in a match which was made up of two halves of 35 minutes. The Yellows overcome Wolverhampton Wanderers, fighting back after a going a goal down to win, thanks to strikers from Javi Ontiveros, from the penalty spot, and Nikita Iosifov.
Villarreal B have shown once more that they are ready to play in professional football. After beating Elche CF on Wednesday (1-3) at the Pinatar Arena, Miguel Álvarez’s men today faced Wolverhampton Wanderers, from the Premier League.
The Yellows dominated play through possession, with all outfield players in the opposition half at times, while Wolves, who had a line-up made up of youth players and first-team regulars, waited to pounce on the counter.
Wolves had the first channe of the match with a Mosquera header which Iker Álvarez saved well. Miguel Álvarez’s side first chance came from a free-kick taken by Dani Tasende, which went just over the bar. However, the English side went ahead from their own set piece, with Mosquera getting on the end of a Ronan free-kick.
Juan Carlos Arana caused danger in the area, causing goalkeeper Storer to lose control of the ball, and nearly getting a chance to shoot. In the second half, with a new starting XI, Diego Collado was unable to make clinical contact after a great Iosifov ball, shooting over.
In the second 35 minutes, Wolves took control of the ball and Villarreal were waiting for a mistake to start an attacking transition, although they had a lower block than Wolves in the first half. In one of the counter-attacks, Collado won a penalty that Ontiveros took, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way to level the tie. With two minutes left, Iosifov scored the winner to leave the English side with no time to react.
