Villarreal CF Manager Fran Escribá warns that against Valencia “there are no favourites”
The Villarreal CF Manager, Fran Escribá, knows what it takes to win a derby, which is why he did not think twice about sending a message to fans prior to tomorrow’s match against Valencia CF a the Estadio de la Cerámica (8:45pm CET): “The fans will be fundamental in the derby. We have to take into account that we’re playing at our home ground and the fans will be an important factor in getting the three points. There are no favourites in derbies, which is why we expect a tough match. We’re going to try to make them uncomfortable, but we know Valencia are a side on the up”.
The Yellows Manager insisted that points and postition in the table do not matter in these type of games: “Valencia are a difficult opponent and the players know that if they are not at 100% we’re not going to win the match. They pressure well up front and they have players that get back a lot and play well in midfield. There will be moments when they will be futher back, as we will be at times too, but we know that they also have quick players on the counterattack”.
In terms of the weather, Escribá hopes that the situation improves ahead of tomorrow’s match: “We think the weather will improve for the match, but we have to take into account that the pitch will be heavier than usual”. Lastly, the Manager highlighted the importance of winning the last match of the first round of games: “I want these three points as much as I do against any team. We want to finish well tomorrow and we know we’re capable. If we win this match we would finish the first round of matches well with 34 points”.
