The Yellows boss regretted his side’s lack of killer instinct and underlined the need to gain confidence

Villarreal manager Javi Calleja appeared in front of the media to analyse the draw at Vallecas. “I believe it was a match where both teams had phases where they were in control. We were better in the first half. We managed to get ahead on the scoreboard and we were comfortable after the goal. The equaliser, given the minute that it came in, hurt us psychologically,” bemoaned the head coach.

Furthermore, Calleja underlined the positive reaction from the team after going behind. “They came out with more intensity in the second half and were able to get ahead. From there, the team reacted and we were able to generate danger, draw and we even had a goal ruled out.”

Finally, the Yellow Submarine coach highlighted the need to get past the negative dynamics, gain confidence and mental strength. “We aren’t calm when we’re making decisions. Our players are trying, they give everything but they aren’t making right decisions. We need to change our mentality, search for solutions in ourselves. We are lacking level-headedness and certainty when we are making decisions,” he finalised.
