Villarreal beat Eibar 4-0, end the season in fifth and Bruno and Cazorla say goodbye in style

The ending straight out of a film. A film with a happy ending, of course. Villarreal beat Eibar 4-0 in the last game of the LaLiga season, ending the season in an impressive fifth place, giving them a pass to the Group Stages of the UEFA Europa League. What’s more, Bruno and Santi Cazorla said goodbye to the club in style with their last match wearing yellow. Two unforgettable legends. There was a guard of honour for both after the full-time whistle, as well as their team-mates sending them off in style by throwing them into the air. They were also given a commemorative shirt. The goals in the game game from André-Frank Zambo Anguissa, Gerard Moreno (2) and Moi Gómez.

With Cazorla and Bruno in the starting XI, Javi Calleja lined up his side in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Andrés Fernández in goal, the midfielder rom Artana in the middle of the pitch and Vicente Iborra as a No.10.

The first chance of the game went to the away side. Kike’s right-footed effort made Fernández make a great save (m.20). Villarreal responded just four minutes later. Anguissa won the ball back, played it to Gerard, but the Catalan striker’s effort went just wide.

Just before the break, the Submarine could have scored again. Cazorla changed direction brilliantly, Rubén Peña crossed first time, but Iborra couldn’t quite get proper contact on his header.

Villarreal opened the scoring in the 71st minute. To no-one’s surprise, Cazorla found a ridiculous pass, playing Anguissa through on goal, with the Cameroonian midfielder scoring to make it 1-0 after cutting inside.

The goal that made it 2-0 came from Gerard. Fernández played a long ball and the Yellows No.7, who went body to body with Burgos, and after getting past him, scored with a powerful left-footed effort (m.85).

The Yellows could celebrate in style with the goal that made it 3-0. Once more from Gerard. Manu Trigueros played Moi in, with the No.23 playing in the Catalan striker first time, with the forward finishing calmly. With these two strikers, Gerard ends the season with 18 goals in LaLiga, two in the Copa del Rey and three with Spain. A campaign to remember.

If that wasn’t enough, there was enough time for the Yellows to get a fourth. Moi received a through pass and finished camly past the goalkeeper (4-0, m.90+3).

It was an unforgettable end to the season. Bruno and Cazorla said goodbye to the club in style and Gerard scored two goals as he looked for the Zarra Trophy, which goes to the top Spanish goalscorer in LaLiga.
