This week, Villarreal visited the island with Marcos Senna, organising a very special camp

Villarreal CF has landed in Puerto Rico. The Yellows, represented by Marcos Senna and three members of the Yellows Academy coaching staff, this week took part in various events organised by the Caribbean country’s Department of Sports and Recreation. The Submarine has a collaboration agreement with the island’s government to help develop the growth of football, encouraging the sport and its values.

It was for precisely the encouragement of sporting values that Senna went to represent the club at the Panamerican Convention for Sports and Physical Activity, which took place in San Juan on 13th and 14th December. The former Yellows captain was present during an interesting round table where he spoke about his experience in becoming a professional player and the difficulties he encountered along the way, giving advice to young athletes from Puerto Rico, and underlining the importance of sporting education.

After this event, Villarreal visited local charity ‘Ser de Puerto Rico’ which carries out a lot of hard work with the care of youngsters and adults with disabilities and learning difficulties. The Yellows, through the Endavant Igualtat project, carry out this type activities with its youth teams and charities throughout the province of Castellón.

Finally, during the entire week, Villarreal CF organised the first ‘Villarreal CF Camp Puerto Rico’, a fototball clinic for boys and girls of every age, where the most important thing was to show the club’s methodology to the players and their parents, so they could get to know in person the special focus the Yellow Submarine puts on education and development of talent. The clinic saw the participation of 100 players who were able to get a great experience, training with Senna and coaching staff from the Yellows Academy.

After the clinic’s end, sign-ups will open in Puerto Rico for the new football academy that the Submarine is lunching in San Juan, ‘Villarreal Puerto Rico Academy’, which will start training sessions on 8th January 2020. For more information, visit: www.villarrealpuertorico.com.
