After trips to Portugal, the Netherlands and France, Villarreal head to the south of England to face Southampton in the fifth pre-season friendly

Villarreal CF land in Southampton tomorrow to continue with their preparation ahead of the start of the LaLiga Santander season, after having beaten Stade de Reims 0-1 at the Stade Auguste Delaune. Unai Emery’s men will face Saints on Saturday at St Mary’s Stadium at 4pm CEST, in a match that will be shown live on GOL in Spain.

The British team are a historic team in the Premier League, having been founded in 1885 and having played 87 seasons in the top flight of English football. In 2001, they moved to their new home, St Mary’s Stadium, where the Yellows will play. Last season, Saints finished 15th in the Premier League, staying up thanks to James Ward-Prowse’s ten goals and five assists in 36 matches. In the EFL Cup, Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side lost in the Round of 16, while they were defeated in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup to Manchester City.

With a rich history as a city, Southampton has one of the main ports in the United Kingdom, the English side stand out for forming players, which footballers such as Gareth Bale and Theo Walcott coming through the ranks, while other world-class players such as Virgil van Dijk and Sadio Mané also featured for Saints at some time in their career.
