The Valencian striker, who already has seven goals to her name, is one of the players who earned promotion

A goal from Sheila Guijarro in the 89th minute gave Villarreal Women the win in their vital match against Rayo Vallecano. The Valencian striker’s goal, celebrated passionately due to its importance, was her seventh of the season in the Primera Iberdrola. The striker for Sara Monforte’s side came into the team when they were playing in Reto Iberdrola, the second tier of Spanish women’s football, but in her return to the top flight, she has proved herself to be a true Primera striker.

Six goals in six games

Up to six of the striker’s goals have come in the last six matchdays. On matchday 16, Sheila made it 1-0 from the penalty spot in a 3-1 win over Deportivo Alavés. On the following matchday 17, the Yellows striker failed to find the back of the net, but she went on to score more than a goal a game in the four subsequent matches. Two goals in the 4-2 away win over Madrid CFF had her name on them, and Real Sociedad, Sevilla FC and Rayo Vallecano also suffered due to the striker’s firepower. These six goals, added to the one against Eibar, which has a special value as it gave Villarreal their first ever win in the Primera Iberdrola, make a total of seven in the current campaign.

Goals worth points

Villarreal Women have won five of the six games in which Sheila has found the net. Only second-placed Real Sociedad were able to overcome Sara Monforte’s side with Sheila on the scoresheet (1-4). And of those five victories, Sheila’s goals have been worth, literally, six points, counting the fact that the Groguetes would have drawn against Eibar, Madrid CFF and Rayo Vallecano without the Valencian’s goals.
