Villarreal will be looking to strike a blow against Girona (Wednesday, 7pm)
A third game for the Submarine in seven days. After facing Panathinaikos last Thursday and Rayo Vallecano on Sunday, Pacheta’s side face Girona at the Estadio de la Cerámica this Wednesday, with kick-off at 7pm CEST.
Villarreal picked up a hard-earned point in their last league game against Rayo Vallecano (1-1). Sorloth, who has now scored four goals in six games, was one of the standout performers in a game in which the Yellows grew from strength to strength and in which they showed a better version than on previous occasions that allowed them to come close to victory with some great chances in the final stretch of the game.
Tomorrow, in the match corresponding to matchday 7 of the 2023/24 LALIGA EA SPORTS season, Villarreal host Girona, a team that has been a revelation at the start of the league and who, with 16 points, are joint leaders of the competition alongside FC Barcelona. Girona have made their best start in history after five wins against Getafe, Sevilla, Las Palmas, Granada and Mallorca and a draw against Real Sociedad.
Dovbyk and, above all, Savio are some of the players with whom the Catalan side reinforced their squad last summer and who are largely to thank for their team’s good start.
The last match between Villarreal and Girona at La Cerámica ended in a 100th minute win for the Yellows. Dani Parejo converted the penalty in the last kick of a match that the Submarine dominated and were deserved winners.
Villarreal will be looking to halt Girona’s run of form and pick up three points that will finally allow them to look towards the top of the table. The Submarine are 12th in the table with seven points, just three behind Atlético, fifth, Valencia, sixth, and Rayo Vallecano, seventh, who are in the European places.
Sánchez Martínez will be the referee for the match, while Ortiz Arias will be on VAR.
