The Cantabrian coach expressed his happiness and gratitude for his arrival at the Yellow club
Quique Setién was presented this Wednesday as the new head coach of Villarreal CF at a press conference held at the Training Ground, where he was accompanied by president Fernando Roig and CEO Fernando Roig Negueroles.
The Cantabrian coach was very happy and grateful for his arrival at Villarreal: “I thank the president and Fernando for giving me the opportunity to come to this club, which is exceptional. Villarreal is a club with the same personality and way of understand things as I do. I couldn’t come to a better place. I haven’t coached at the highest level for two years. I’m very happy at the moment and I’m really looking forward to coming here.”
Setién also emphasised that Villarreal is an extraordinary place to coach: “I didn’t really want to go back to coaching for a while. I wanted to go to a club that understood football and life the the same way as I do. This is the place. It’s a very family oriented club, which I share the same values with. It’s a fantastic place to work.”
In his appearance, the coach from Santander acknowledged that there is a strong group with a lot of quality: “There are very good players and a good dressing room. It’s a club that all coaches want to come to. It’s a benchmark club that continues to grow every year.”
He also stressed that he is very motivated for this new challenge: “I’m an ambitious coach. You all know how I like to work. I’m coming back happy. There have been moments when I thought that 40 years of a career were enough, but in two days I’m extremely motivated to be back. I’m delighted to be here.”
As for the style, Setién has assured that he will follow a similar style, although he will be including changes to his game: “We are going to take advantage of many things that we have been doing. Others we will modify over time. The most important thing is that the players know what I want. We will try to keep improving as a team. We have great players, who understand football very well and will adapt to what we want.”

Villarreal president Fernando Roig welcomed the team’s new coach: “We are very excited about his arrival. We wish him all the best. He has signed for the rest of the season and next year. I am still convinced that we are going to have a great season. I have a good feeling and I am very happy with his arrival.”
