The Spaniard has become the goalkeeper with the most appearances for the Yellows in the elite

Sergio Asenjo has written his name in Villarreal CF history after becoming the goalkeeper with the most appearances for the club in the elite of Spanish football. After starting the match against RC Celta, the goalkeeper has now played a total of 231 matches for the Yellows, overtaking Diego López, who previously had the record, with 230 games played for the Submarine.

Aged 31, the Spain international, who arrived at Villarreal CF from Atlético de Madrid in the 2013/14 season, has become a club legend, as well as an example for overcoming setbacks for the whole footballing world, after recovering from various serious injuries.

The Villarreal goalkeeper has represented the club in 204 times LaLiga, 16 in the Europa League, nine in the Copa del Rey and twice in the Champions League.
