The Yellows right back started and played 90 minutes against the Republic of Ireland

Villarreal’s Serbian right back, Antonio Rukavina, started for his country yesterday in a Russia 2018 World Cup qualifying match against the Republic of Ireland. Rukavina played 90 minutes of the tie played in Belgrade which finished in a 2-2 draw, with goals from Hendrick (m. 3), Kostic (m. 62), Tadic (m. 69) and Murphy (m. 80).

The next Villarreal player to represent his country will be Mateo Musacchio, who will play for Argentina against Venezuela early tomorrow morning. The schedule for the Yellows on international duty is the following (all times and dates are CET (Spain)): 

Mateo Musacchio (Argentina)

  • Friday 2nd September: Argentina-Uruguay (1-0).
  • Wednesday 7th September: Venezuela-Argentina (2-2). 

Antonio Rukavina (Serbia)

  • Monday 5th September: Serbia-Republic of Ireland (2-2).

Bojan Jokic (Slovenia)

  • Sunday 4th September: Lithuania-Slovenia (2-2).

 

Edgar Ié will play with Portugal U21s

In addition, the Villarreal B team’s Portuguese player, Edgar Ié, has also been called up for his country’s U21 team for two European Championship qualifying matches. Edgar Ié’s match schedule is the following:

  • Friday 2nd September: Portugal U21-Israel U21 (0-0).
  • Tuesday 6th September: Portugal U21-Greece U21 (1-0).
