The Yellows president thanked Bruno Soriano and Santi Cazorla for their hard work and commitment during their long careers with Villarreal

Villarreal CF president Fernando Roig appeared alongside Bruno Soriano and Santi Cazorla in a press conference to say goodbye to two Yellows legends, after the 4-0 win over Eibar, which ended the 2019/20 LaLgia season, and the two players’ time with Villarreal CF.

Roig had words of praise for both players and thanked them for everything they have done for Villarreal CF. “They are two club legends. They have given their all for Villarreal for a long time and I want to thank both of them. The club’s doors will always be open for both of them.”

Bruno: “This club is part of my life”

Bruno Soriano is hanging up his boots after 14 seasons with Villarreal CF and explained why he is retirement: “I’ve thought about it a lot and I’ve taken this tough decision. I’ve realised that my body is no longer able to give 100% and play 90 minutes week in, week out, which is what I’ve always wanted to do. That’s why I’ve taken the decision to end my career.”

In his goodbye to professional football, the legendary No.21 wanted to think of the Yellows fans, who he would have liked to have had there to see his farewell: “It is a shame that they can’t be here today with us. They would have had a great time and it would have been even more special.”

Finally, the eternal Villarreal captain explained, that from now on, he will continue to support the club from the Estadio de la Cerámica stands: “This club is part of my life and that doesn’t stop here. I am going to continue coming to cheer on the team every Sunday, alongside the rest of the fans and those who love this club.”

Cazorla: “Villarreal will always be my home”

Santi Cazorla will not continue at Villarreal CF next season, and said goodbye in style, alongside his team-mate and friend Bruno Soriano. He thanked the club and the fans for everything he experienced as a Yellows player. “I’m eternally grateful to this club and the fans for having opened the doors to me and for all the love they’ve shown me for so long. I’ve had a great time, but it’s time to end this stage of my career. It’s a decision I’ve thought about a lot. Every game I find it harder to give 100% and I had to be honest with myself and the club.”

For the midfielder, Villarreal is more than a football club: “I feel that this club is inside me. It isn’t a goodbye, it’s a ‘we’ll meet again’, because Villarreal CF will always be my home.”

A special place for emblematic players

Villarreal CF will soon unveil a special place at the Estadio de la Cerámica to remember its most emblematic players. Through a ‘hall of fame’, the club will pay tribute to those footballers who are the most emblematic of the club throughout its history. This will have Bruno and Cazorla as a starting point, as the players who will be recognised first. More details will be revealed soon.
