The Villarreal manager highlighted the importance of having the ball and being effective with it to come away with the win on Saturday

Villarreal manager Javi Calleja appeared in front of the press to analyse the upcoming league match with Real Valladolid (Saturday, 1pm CEST). The Yellows manager underlined the need to have the ball and to be clinical in front of goal: “I predict a match like last season. I hope that this time, it’s us who win. We are going to try and take the initiative and dominate the game. If we don’t have it, we haven’t done our job. We will try and create a lot of chances, but it will be crucial ti take them. This season we’re showing that we have goals in us. We’re going to try and continue showing that.”

For the Yellows head coach, taking three points at La Cerámica is key to being towards the top of the table: “Last year home wins evaded us. We need to learn our lessons so that we get a win at home early on this season. These first few points at home are crucial to be high up the table.”

Calleja praised Real Valldolid’s strengths, that they are very good with out the ball: “They’re a team that repels well. They defend intensely near the box and they make the most of their offensive chances. They’re a well-structured team and it’s hard to make them lose their organisation. To win, we need to be mature, be patient and be good off the ball. We need to pressure them and make sure they’re not comfortable. We can’t be better for 30 or 60 minutes. It needs to be like that all the game.”
