The defender has thanked Villarreal for giving him the chance to play for the club and has promised to work hard

Rubén Peña was presented this lunchtime as a new Villarreal player in a press conference at the press room at the Villarreal CF Training Ground (Ciudad Deportiva). Accompanied by the club CEO Fernando Roig Negueroles, the right-back spoke in public for the first time since signing.

“It’s a great opportunity for me. I’m arriving at a massive club. I’m sure that I won’t lack hard work or ambition in this new challenge. I’ve fought a lot to be able to be where I’m seated today. I’m a very hard-working footballer. I’m always searching for new goals and new challenges: I’m arriving here keen to help the team get their objectives, but I’m also hungry, ambitious and keen to grow as a player,” explained Peña.

Furthermore, the new Yellows reinforcement wanted to thank Villarreal for the trust shown in him: “I’ve felt very wanted since I arrived. It’s a club whose way of working I’ve always liked. It’s like a family. I want to continue moving on in Spanish football and this club is ideal for that.”

One of his great qualities is his versatility, but Peña believes he is most comfortable as a right-back: “It’s a position I know well and where I’ve played most at the top level. Before I played further forward and I scored. I would like to help the team by getting goals but I can’t forget that I’m a defender.”

Finally, the 27-year-old confirmed that he has left the meniscus injury that kept him off the pitch for a stretch of last season behind him: “I went through a good moment of rehab at the time, and on Monday, I’ll be ready to train with the group.”
