The Yellows defender underlined the importance of being focused to avoid the mistakes made in the first leg

Villarreal CF defender Pau Torres, alongside Unai Emery, appeared before the media this afternoon at the pre-match press conference ahead of the game against against Hajduk Split (Thursday, 9pm CEST), corresponding to the second leg of the Conference League play-offs to be played at the Stadion Poljud. Here are the key points from what he said:

Going out to win

“Anything less than going out to win tomorrow would be a mistake. We’re aware that the tie is still wide open and they, with their fans, will want to feel strong and in the limelight. We are travelling to Croatia with our homework half done, but we have to finish off the tie. Hajduk Split are a team with quality players, fast and capable of getting past a press easily and making life difficult for you, so it’s important to be focused from the start.”

Lessons learned from the first leg

“They are a team with quality players, capable of getting pass the press easily, with fast players on the wing who make life difficult for you.”

The momentum of the team

“This is the third season in which we have maintained a similar block and an idea of how to play that we are very clear about and that we try to improve in every game. As well as being capable of maintaining the blasé of the team, we are all going in the same direction and the new players who have joined us come with a lot of enthusiasm.”

A hostile atmosphere in Croatia

“We’re aware that both them and their fans will be pressing in their stadium, but we are prepared because we played all pre-season away from home and in big stadiums. What’s more, last Sunday, we were able to win at one of the most difficult grounds to play at in LaLiga, the Metropolitano. We are clear about our role and what we have to do and we try to do it in any stadium.”
