Patri Traver and Laura Cuesta end their era as coordinators of Villarreal Women

Former assistant coach, Sergi Campos, takes over from Traver and Cuesta

Patri Traver and Laura Cuesta, coordinators of women’s football at Villarreal CF, have decided to cut ties with the club for personal reasons. Both took over as head of women’s football in the 2018/19 season and have since helped take the team to the football elite. In fact, their great work and dedication were one of the key factors in Villarreal Women’s promotion to the First Division in the 2020/21 season for the first time in the club’s history and, subsequently, staying up in their first two seasons in the top flight of Spanish women’s football.

A life dedicated to Villarreal Women

Both Patri Traver and Laura Cuestra have practically dedicated their lives to Villarreal Women. Patri Traver was recently honoured with the gold insignia for being at the club for more than two decades. Patri represented the Yellows for the first time in the 2001/02 season and played until the 2014/15 season; when she left Villarreal CF to fulfil her dream of playing in the First Division with Santa Teresa. However, her relationship with Villarreal did not end there. After her journey in Extremadura, she returned to play for Villarreal Women, combining her career as a footballer with coaching both the U12 and U16 teams. Then, in 2018, together with Laura Cuestra, she would assume the responsibility of directing the entire women’s football section.

For her part, Laura Cuestra has been linked to Yellows for 15 seasons. Between 2007 and 2010, she stood out for Villarreal in the full-back position. After a season abroad, she came back to wear the Villarreal shirt again from the 2011/12 season until the 2018/19 season. It should be noted that in April 2018 she had already assumed the position of coordinator, thus combining it with her last months as a footballer.

Sergi Campos, new head of the women’s programme

Sergi Campos, who last season held the role of assistant coach for Villarreal Women (First Division), now assumes the position as the new coordinator for Villarreal Women. In this way, Sergi will continue in the same line of work to ensure much future success for Villarreal Women.

Villarreal CF would like to thank Patri Traver and Laura Cuestra for their hard work and dedication, as well as wish Sergi Campos the best of luck in his new position.
