Villarreal thrash Celta in a spectacular match that sent the fans wild at El Madrigal

Villarreal took down Celta convincingly (5-0) in an outstanding match by the Yellows, who were the far superior side and took the three points thanks to goals by Soriano (2), Bakambu, Trigueros and an own goal by Wass. With this win, the Submarine extend their unbeaten run to ten consecutive matches, between LaLiga Santander (8) and the UEFA Europa League (2).

The Submarine shone. The start of the match was dream-like. Pure fantasy football. The Yellows went ahead on the score board after a brilliant through ball by Manu Trigueros found Soriano, who converted with a great shot across goal from inside the box. Measured to perfection (m. 8).

Just three minutes later the second came. Again courtesy of Soriano. The number 20 took advantage of Sergio’s bad clearance, bringing the ball down and calmly placing his strike over the Celta goalkeeper from far out on the left wing. He could not have executed it any better.

Villarreal were uncontainable for Celta. Thus, the 3-0 did not take long to arrive. Sansone set out on a lethal counter attack down the middle of the pitch and laid the ball off perfectly for Bakambu, who left his defender for dead and the number 17 made no mistake about firing home at the near post.

After a dream first half, the Submarine continued to delight the fans in the second. So much so that El Madrigal finished with several rounds of the Mexican wave. With the fans completely engaged, the Submarine then went 4-0 ahead. This time with a stroke of luck, as Wass scored an own goal from a corner kick.

From then on, Fran Escribá’s side controlled their opponents to pefection and even got themselves a fifth in injury time. Spectacular play by Mario down the right wing found the head of Pato, whose effort came back off the post and the rebound was sent into the back of the net by an attentive Trigueros. One to remember.
