The Yellows lose to an inspired Sevilla side
Villarreal Women were unable to get the points in their match against Sevilla Women on Matchday 5 of the 2022/23 Finetwork Liga F played on Sunday afternoon at the Mini Estadi (0-5). Sara Monforte’s side could do nothing against the effectiveness in front of goal of the Andalusian team, who took three points on their visit to Vila-real.
Sevilla Women took an early lead in the 10th minute when, Ana Franco, after a run down the left flank, found herself unmarked in the Yellows box and beat Elena de Toro with a well-placed shot at the far post.
Sara Monforte’s side tried to recover from the visitors’ goal, but it was Cristian Toro’s side who struck twice more before the break. Once again Ana Franco in the 22nd minute scored from Payne’s through ball and in the 28th minute Jessica Martinez scored an empty net after stealing the ball from Elena de Toro to increase the gap on the scoreboard. At half-time, Villarreal Women were 3-0 down against the away side.
Villarreal took a step forward at the start of the second half looking for a goal that would put them in the fight for the points, but in the 54th minute Ana Franco scored her third goal and her team’s fourth on another counter-attack by Sevilla.
The Yellows had great chances throughout the second half to close the gap on the scoreboard through Belén, Sheila and Rocío, but they came up against a determined Esther Sullastres. Finally, another mistake by the Yellows defence in the 82nd minute resulted in the fifth and final goal for Sevilla Women, who took all three points.
Villarreal Women will return to Finetwork Liga F action on Sunday 23rd October, when they take on UDG Tenerife Egatesa at the Estadio La Palmera at 12.00 pm CET.
