Villarreal Women’s coach Sara Monforte spoke to the media at the press conference ahead of the match against Athletic Club (Saturday, 5pm CET) at the Mini Estadi at the Miralcamp Training Ground. These are the standout points she made:
To keep competing
“We’re in a comfortable situation, but if we score we’ll be a little more relaxed. We can’t relax, we have to take it one game at a time. The team is doing very well, as they showed the other day against Levante. We’re on a good run.”
A difficult opponent
“We are playing against a team that dominates all aspects of the game. They know how to play short and long. They are a very organised team. They have a very solid back four, but anyone can start. They’re a team with a mixture of experience and youth and they’re one of the most consistent teams in the league.”
Room for improvement
“There is room for improvement in us. We’ve improved a lot since the start of the season, but we still need to keep improving in some areas. At the start we struggled a lot to create chances and we’ve improved in that area. The other day we won a lot of balls in midfield but we failed to make good use of that by not giving it any continuity.”
A very competitive league
“It’s a very competitive league and you can see that. Any team can beat you, because every team is competitive, and even more so now that the end of the season is approaching. The competition is very tough. I don’t think any team is having a disastrous season because they are all competing in every game. All of this makes for a beautiful league.”
