The head coach underlined his pride after an impressive performance by his players against Rayo Vallecano
Villarreal CF head coach Marcelino García Toral appeared in front of the media after the impressive win (3-0) against Rayo Vallecano at the Estadio de la Cerámica. Here is what he had to say:
Thoughts on the match
“We played very well in the first half and we deserved to end up with a bigger lead at the break. It might be the best first half since I arrived. In the second half we started well, but we didn’t have the continuity and control of the first half. I’m proud of the players and the game they played. We were looking forward to winning like this, by a large margin.”
European aim
“We have to try to get as many points as possible and that will give us the place we deserve in the standings. It’s difficult, we have to think about taking all the points that are left. Above us, there are teams with a high level and regularity to stay in these positions. Whether we succeed or not, we must maintain this level of play, effort and solidarity. I want to congratulate these players. We have run a lot and very well.”
Sorloth’s performance
“He played a very good game. He scored goals and was dynamic. He gave us mobility and played a great game. We played well, we got into the opposition’s box a lot and that helped him.”
The Baena show
“He played an extraordinary game. The team works, plays well, there is commitment and the performance of each of them is increasing. Álex is a young player, with ability, talent and generous in his efforts. We are very happy for him. With Baena at this level, we will have many options to win games. The same goes for if we have other players up top who are also in good form.”
Hard work to turn things around
“There is no secret. This is about work. The players have had a hard time because they didn’t get the results. It’s a team with ability and they are now showing the performance they have inside. We are confident. It was hard for us to go from bad results to victories, but we managed to do it with hard work and because they work hard as a team. I am very grateful for that.”
