The Villarreal manager assures that his team will play against Barça with “absolute excitement”
The Villarreal CF manager, Marcelino García Toral, stated that his team have a great challenge ahead of them this Sunday against FC Barcelona. The Submarine will face the leaders of the First Division. “Barça are the strongest team, by a mile. What’s more, this fixture doesn’t come to us at the best time. Even so, there’s no doubt that we’ll play with absolute excitement and try and get the win. We have to have a perfect match. We’ll see how far our legs go. And above all hope that it’s not Barça’s day. On Thursday we played an exhausting match and we have a lot of injuries”, Marcelino commented.
According to the manager, his team are really motivated despite their accumulated fatigue: “You always feel pressure to win. As an athlete, always competing, there is always pressure to win. But if you can’t deal with that you don’t deserve to be at the top level. There isn’t so much pressure on us to beat Barça. We know how difficult it is to beat them. In fact, I’ve never beaten Barça. We hope to break their winning streak. Against Barça you have a lot to gain and little to lose. The players are really up for this match”.
Villarreal hopes they can get the win as they’ve already beaten big teams such as Real Madrid, Atlético and Sevilla, among others, this season. “We never have that bit of luck that you need against Barça. You have to play well and have a bit of luck too. You can’t make a single mistake against a team like Barça”.
To finish, Marcelino didn’t think twice about praising tomorrow’s rival: “Without a shadow of a doubt Barça are the best team in the world. They have a brilliant squad, like other teams, but collectively they’re better. They have a very clear idea about their style of play and everyone does their job in defence and attack”.
