The manager congratulates his team on their important win against Levante

Thankful for his players and the supporters. This is how Marcelino felt after the Yellows’ victory against Levante in El Madrigal today (3-0). The manager praised his players’ performance and emphasized the importance of the role of all that took part: “I am really satisfied thanks to everyone involved. It was a really important match as all are in the final stretch of the season. The changes were necessary, but we also did this in the previous match against Levante and it didn’t work out to well as we lost that game. But that aside, we need all our players. I feel extremely proud of all the players. Let’s see if we can all keep going this way for what’s left of the season.”.

Villarreal keeps adding to their undefeated record in the league, which now stands at 13 consecutive league matches. “The records mean that the team is doing really well. This week we worked hard and the balance in the team is more positive than ever after drawing against Atlético, knocking out Napoli and finishing with this 3-0 win today. We would have said yes to that from the start””, he commented.

According to Marcelino, the team should focus on securing fourth place: “Every team has realistic objectives that they set at the start of the season. We’re on track to beat them convincingly, but there’s a long way to go. To finish third in the league we would have to maintain this extraordinary level of performance and Atlético and Real Madrid would have to be below their best. Every step we take is to secure fourth place, which would be a great success for us”.

The manager praised his team even more: “We have to put players in different positions because we’re not a squad with a lot of depth and we’re playing a lot of matches. We trying to share the efforts around. We’re really satisfied to have such versatile players.

In fact, Marcelino believes the goals from Leo Baptistao, Samu Castillejo and Adrián will do a lot for those players. “Adrián had to go through a long recovery process. This game has been good for many players. They’ve demonstrated that they’re worthy. The more troops we can add to the final stretch of the season the better. Castillejo has worked hard and today he scored a good goal and I am happy about that. Nahuel also put a great ball forward for the third goal, which is the same as scoring” he concluded.
