The Yellows boss hailed Villarreal’s reaction in an even and competitive tie against Espanyol
Villarreal head coach Luis García praised his side’s reaction late on against Espanyol, although he recognised there was not much between the two teams: “The tie is finely balanced. It was a match which both them and us could have scored a lot of goals. We need to continue like this in attack.”
That said, the manager was frustrated that his side did not get the win against the blue and whites: “With the draw, I think we have options. We are generating chances, we have enough to win each game, but we need to be a lot tighter at the back.”
Furthermore, García showed his uncertainty about the role of VAR during the match on Wednesday: “They’re making us doubt a lot of things, I’ve come here from China, from a league where they didn’t let one slip. I’m in favour of VAR, but we don’t know when it’s being used and when it isn’t. I don’t think there’s any problem at all if VAR corrects a referee. It’s a technological tool that we need to put in use in moments of play where it’s clear.”
The Yellows boss hailed Vicente Iborra, after the new signing made his ‘groguet’ debut: “I didn’t have to explain to him what I want from him. He understands me perfectly and he knows how I want him to play in the middle of the pitch.”
To conclude, García looked ahead to the next Yellow Submarine match, against Getafe this Saturday (8:45pm CET) at the Estadio de la Cerámica: “I see a very ambitious team in a good place. This style of play needs to carry on until the final whistle to get us three points. I hope this will be next Saturday.”
