Sergio Asenjo highlighted the chance to get a win in Cornellà to allow the Submarine to forget the misstep against Osasuna and get stuck in at the top end of the table

Villarreal CF goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo appeared in front of the press this lunchtime to analyse the current goings on with the Yellows. The goalkeeper recognised that it will be a hard-fought tie with Espanyol next up: “It will be an intense game like in Pamplona. They’re a team with a new manager which will give them more motivation. They are going into the game needing the three points.”

For the Yellows No.1, the tie at Cornellà is an opportunity to get three points to allow the Yellows to move up the table: “We want to recoup that winning feeling and get stuck in at the top of the table with the teams that are there. I believe that despite the loss last time, we’re on the way up and working well. To win in Barcelona we need to dominate the game in terms of possession. We can’t let them dictate the play.”

Asenjo also underlined feeling comfortable since returning to the starting XI: “I trust in myself. Bit by bit I’m getting use to playing with Pau and Albiol, who I had hardly lined up alongside before. It’s very important.”

Finally, he was positive about Giuseppe Rossi’s return, with the forward training with the club to regain his best level: “This is his club, he was fantastic here. He’s a great player. Hopefully he can get into shape and can be part of the team.”
