Villarreal CF has hosted the best youth tournament for the fifth time at the Pamesa Cerámica Training Ground

A real spectacle. LaLiga Promises once more shone in Vila-real, with surprises, but above all, great football. Villarreal CF were the hosts for the fifth time, congregating the 20 best U12 teams in Spain at the Pamesa Cerámica Training Ground.

After a year interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, LaLiga Promises, which was celebrating its 30th edition, showed that it is the leading competition for Spanish youth football. On television, millions of people watched the games from this important tournament, organised by LaLiga and the José Ramón de la Morena Foundation.

FC Barcelona, champions of the 30th LaLiga Promises

This season, FC Barcelona were crowned champions after beating Sevilla FC 3-0 in the final. In the previous rounds, they knocked out Real Betis, Atlético de Madrid and SD Huesca. The tournament’s MVP was Bryan, RC Celta player, who scored nine goals, and was also the tournament’s top scorer.

The Submarine showed off their talent

Villarreal CF put in a good tournament, despite being knocked out in the Round of 16 against Sevilla FC (1-0). The Yellows, drawn in Group C, started with a win against Cádiz CF (1-2), then two draws against Real Madrid CF (0-0) and Getafe CF (1-1). In their fourth match against RC Celta de Vigo, the Yellows lost 3-4. The individual performance of Alejandro Duque stood out, pleasing the hosts with his goals.

As well as the Submarine, the following sides took part: CA Osasuna, Deportivo Alavés, FC Barcelona, Granada CF, Real Betis, Atlético de Madrid, Real Sociedad, SD Huesca, SD Eibar, Valencia CF, Elche CF, Levante UD, RCD Espanyol, Sevilla FC, Real Valladolid, Cádiz CF, Getafe CF, RC Celta de Vigo and Real Madrid.

Pau Torres’ surprise

Pau Torres took centre stage at LaLiga Promises in a memorable moment. The footballer from Vila-real took the Europa League trophy to the tournament before Friday’s game between Villarreal CF and Real Madrid (0-0). The young Yellows were able to get a photo with the cup and their idol, who stayed to cheer them on against Los Blancos. He was the guest of honour in a tournament he also took part in when he was playing for Villarreal’s U12 (Alevín) side.

More excitement next weekend

As if that wasn’t enough, LaLiga Promises returns once more to Vila-real next weekend to celebrate the edition that should have taken place last year in 2020, but didn’t due to the COVID-19 pandemic. From 4th to 6th June, the Pamesa Cerámica Training Ground will, for the second week in a row, be the centre of youth football in Spain, with the best U13 teams (born in 2008) in Spain.
