The midfielder played the assist for Mexico’s second goal vs Portugal in the Confederations Cup

Two Villarreal CF footballers were stars for their respective national teams over the weekend. Yesterday, Mexico midfielder Jonathan dos Santos was in the starting eleven for Mexico’s first match of the Confederations Cup, which is being held in Russia. Mexico drew 2-2 against Portugal and Jonathan provided the assist for Mexico’s second goal with a brilliant corner kick that was headed home by Héctor Moreno. The Villarreal number 8 played the full 90 minutes and put in a great performance. His next match will be against New Zealand (Wednesday, 8pm CET).

For his part, Villarreal’s Portuguese defender, Ruben Semedo, also started and played the full match as Portugal U21 played Serbia U21 in the U21 European Championships. Portugal won the game 2-0 and will play their next match against Spain U21 this Tuesday (8:45pm CET).

And no other than Rodrigo Hernández is currently with the Spain U21 squad. The Submarine’s centre midfielder was called up last minute by Manager Albert Celades, after left back Grimaldo fell injured, and is already focused and working hard with his teammates.
