Mexico and Spain U21 both qualify for semis of the Confederations Cup and European Championships

Two Villarreal CF players stood out for their respective national teams over the last few days. Mexican centre midfielder Jonathan dos Santos started in yesterday’s win over Russia in the third and decisive match of the Group Stage of the Confederations Cup (2-1). Jonathan played the full 90 minutes in a game that Mexico had to make a comeback in in order to get through to the semi-finals.

For his part, Rodrigo Hernández made his debut with Spain U21s and with a bang. The former Yellows Academy and current Villarreal First Team player was also on the pitch for the full 90 minutes in the third match of the Group Stage of the U21 European Championships that is currently being played in Poland. Spain beat Serbia 0-1 with an extraordinary performance by the centre midfielder and are now through to the semi-finals of the tournament. Now, the Spaniards will play against Italy U21 on Tuesday (9pm CET).

Lastly, it should also be stated that Ruben Semedo was not able to play in Portugal U21’s last match due to suspension. The Portuguese side beat Macedonia, but the result (2-4) was not enough to take them through to the next round of the competition.
