Iker Goujón has highlighted the importance of Villarreal B’s duel and the desire to achieve a historical promotion

Villarreal B player Iker Goujón appeared at a press conference to analyse what could be the historic match against Gimnàstic de Tarragona (Saturday, 9pm CEST), corresponding to the final of the playoff for promotion to LaLiga Smartbank. The ‘groguet’ striker has stressed that the team is looking forward to the game and to get the promotion to the silver league.

The importance of small details

“In these play-offs a blow is usually definitive. We had a scare against Logroñés, but at half-time we were convinced that we could pull it off. Against Nàstic it could be similar. We know that we can suffer in some moments of the game, but it’s the small details that make the difference. We’re going to be very focused so that they go our way.”

One of the most important games

“It’s one of the most important games we’re going to play, but we have enough confidence and character to face these games. I don’t see any weakness or nerves in my team-mates because of the situation. We hope that Villarreal fans will come and that our families will be with us for such an important match. We are really looking forward to the game.”

A very evenly matched game

“It may seem that Nàstic are more solid than us, but throughout the season we have shown that we are very reliable in defence and generate a lot of chances. That’s one of our strengths. We are confident that we will do a good job defensively. Nàstic is a tough opponent, but we have shown that we can keep up with the big teams. In a play-off match there are never favourites.”

A dedicated fan base

“It’s a long trip, the club has provided two methods of transport. I would ask the fans, if they can and if they have time, to come and see us because I’m convinced that many of them will be playing at the Estadio de la Cerámica in a few years’ time. If you can help us, we would be very grateful. The fans will be up to the task and we hope to see yellow in the stands at Balaídos.”
