Luis García hails the team’s quality and underlined his excitement at starting a new stage of his career

This evening, Luis García Plaza was presented as new Villarreal manager, in a press conference headed by Yellows president Fernando Roig. The new head coach thanked the club for the trust placed in him and underlined his excitement at the new stage in his professional career: “I’m really keen to turn this situation around. We’re coming here to work as hard as possible and we hope to change the dynamic. Thursday is a final, we hope to win the match and from there, carry on getting better.”

The coach took his first training session with his new players this afternoon, hailed the quality in Villarreal’s squad: “On Thursday, we have a vital match. We’re playing to stay in the Europa League. We can’t change everything in two days, but in the first session, we’ve seen very positive things. We have a very complete squad that can play in multiple systems. I’ve told the players it’s a new era and I’ve seen them as really keen to get going.”

García, who was Villarreal B manager in the 2005/06 season, showed his pride at being able to return to the Yellows to take charge of the first team: “When I left, I felt I needed to grow as a coach to return one day. I’m really proud to have been able to come back. Hopefully it’s a fruitful era for the club, as well as for myself.”

Fernando Roig: “Luis García is a great manager who knows our philosophy”

Villarreal president Fernando Roig welcomed García to the Yellows: “He’s a great manager who’s already been part of this club. He knows us well and he knows Spanish football well. He’s really excited to be here and we’re sure he’ll do a great job.” Furthermore, the president wanted to thank Javi Calleja publicly for his professional nature and dedication to the first team from the bench: “He’s someone loved by everyone and he always gave everything for Villarreal, both in his time as manager and as player.”
