The Mini Submarine triumphs over CD Castellón despite poor refereeing at Castalia

Heroes! Villarreal B secured an epic win in the local derby (1-2). The Mini Submarine beat CD Castellón in Castalia in a game marred by poor refereeing, leaving Miguel Álvarez’s team with only 8 players on the pitch. Against all odds, the Villarreal CF side managed to take all three points at Castalia.

The match started with a clear yellow dominance. The first real chance of the game came after an outstanding first 15 minutes from Villarreal. The Mini Submarine midfielder, Sergio Lozano, took a powerful shot from the edge of the area, forcing Álvaro Campos into a full-stretch save.

Miguel Álvarez’s team were soon knocking on the door. This time it was Iván Martín who’s shot at goal was perhaps fortuitously kept out by the home team again.

In the 25th minute, the Mini Submarine were finally rewarded for their hard work on the pitch. After the local goalkeeper made an excellent save to Espiau’s shot, Simón Moreno scored the rebound to open the account for the Yellows.

The first opportunity for CD Castellón came after the half hour mark. Satrústegui leapt higher than anyone to attempt a dangerous header, although he could only put it wide of the posts.

In the closing stages of the first half, the number of stoppages increased. When the first half was coming to an end, the referee, who had been giving out yellow cards more frequently, sent off Goyo for receiving two yellow cards. The Mini Submarine was forced to endure the entire second half with 10 men.

With one extra player on the pitch, CD Castellón, almost absent during the first half, started to dominate the match. In the 66th minute the referee was again the centre of attention, awarding a controversial penalty to the home side. CD Castellón equalised through Muguruza, who beat Diego Fuoli from the penalty spot.

Just five minutes later, and once again another controversial decision, Pepe Castaño was sent off for a foul in the Castellón area. Villarreal B was left with nine players. Holding on to the lead seemed almost impossible with more than 20 minutes to go.

The latter parts of the game were met with a succession of attacks from the home side. The Yellows were strong in defence and themselves tried to counter-attack, although only having nine players.

Despite the situation, Miguel Álvarez’s men did not give in. Their effort was epically rewarded. With only nine men, Álex Millán scored their second goal of the game, stealing the ball from a defender to beat the goalkeeper with a subtle shot. The Yellow goal silenced the local crowd.

Diego Fuoli was sent off in the 95th minute, leaving the Mini Submarine with eight players on the pitch. Morante was put in goal for the yellows for a minute of constant attacks. When the whistle blew, Villarreal B had achieved an epic and heroic victory in the provincial derby against CD Castellón.
