The Argentine defender underlined his satisfaction with staying at Villarreal and the good work so far in pre-season

Juan Foyth appeared in a remote press conference after the men’s first team’s training session this morning at the Villarreal CF Training Ground (Ciudad Deportiva). The Argentine defender underlined his satisfaction after it being confirmed that he will represent Villarreal for the next five season: “I’m very grateful to the club for the trust they gave to me and I’m very happy with all my team-mates. Last year, we had a really nice year. This year, we’re full of excited, but we’ll take it game by game. I am going to help wherever I am needed, whether it be from the bench or in the position that the manager puts me.”

The Argentinean also spoke about pre-season, with the UEFA Super Cup on the horizon: “Pre-seasons are hard, but we have an objective coming up, which is the final against Chelsea, and we want to prepare ourselves the best way possible. Both the coaching staff and the players give 100% in each training session. It’s a long pre-season, but we need to be ready and go into all the competitions at 100%. I think it’s an extra motivation having a title to play for in a few days. We’re working hard and we’re enjoying ourselves too.”

Foyth also was asked about the new arrivals so far this summer: “They’re professional players, quality players, who are at the level needed to be part of the team. They’re also good guys too. This dressing room is full of good people and that makes us stronger as a team.”

The Argentine defender also underlined the importance of this Thursday’s game against Olympique Lyonnais: “Winning is important to us. It’s a friendly game, a preparation game, but we want to win. The most important thing in pre-season is preparing ourselves to be in good shape for our first objective, which is the final against Chelsea. Results are always going to be important, but we focus on good feelings, both as a group as on an individual level.”

Finally, Foyth had a message for the fans: “I haven’t had the chance to have a lot of time with fans at the stadium. The last LaLiga game against Sevilla I couldn’t play because I was injured. Throughout last season, you could feel the support of everyone. We achieved what we did because of them, for the town. I hope this year they can be alongside us, like they are normally.”
