Bakambu, Castillejo, Jonathan and Jokic join Rukavina and Musacchio, who were called up previously
Villarreal’s great start to the season has not gone unnoticed by the national team Managers. Thus, up to four Villarreal players have recently been called up by their respective national teams for international matches. These players are Bakambu, Castillejo, Jonathan dos Santos and Jokic, all of whom will represent their countries at the start of October. Antonio Rukavina (Serbia) and Mateo Musacchio (Argentina) must also be added to the list as they were previously called up by their respective national teams this month.
The Democratic Republic of the Congo national team has called up Villarreal striker Cédric Bakambu for two matches, one of those is a Russia 2018 World Cup qualifier. The Yellows number 17 will represent his country in matches against Kenya (Tuesday 4th October) and Libya (Saturday 8th Ocotber), both at the Mártires de Kinshasa stadium. Great news for Bakambu, who played for the first time since recovering from his injury last night in the UEFA Europa League against Steaua Bucuresti.
Jonathan dos Santos is another of the novelties on the list for the Mexican national team for their upcoming FIFA fixtures. First he will play in a friendly against New Zealand starting at midnight on 8th October and finishing in the early hours on 9th October and after he will do the same against Panama in another friendly (Tuesday 11th October).
For his part, Samu Castillejo will play with Spain U21s against San Marino on 5th October away from home and against Estonia in Pontevedra on 10th October. Both matches are qualifiers for the next U21 European championships.
Last but not least, Bojan Jokic has alos been called up for his country. The left back will play for Slovenia against Slovakia on 8th October and against England on 11th October. Both matches will be played in Ljubljana and are both Russia 2018 World Cup qualifiers.
Portugal U21s call up Edgar Ié
The Villarreal B team’s right back, Edgar Ié, has also been called up for his country by Rui Jorge for the Portugal U21s. Even though Portugal have already qualified for the upcoming U21 European championships they still have to play two qualifying matches against Hungary (Thursday 6th October) and Liechtenstein (Tuesday 11th October).
