Villarreal’s starting lineup took to the Los Cármenes pitch with a shirt supporting Yellows vice-president José Manuel Llaneza, who has recently been diagnosed with leukaemia.
An emotive gesture ahead of the match against Granada to support one of the most important people in Villarreal CF’s history. With Llaneza on the board, Villarreal CF have become part of Spanish football’s elite, with the current 2021/22 season being the Submarine’s 22nd in the top flight.
Villarreal have finished runners-up in the league on one occasion and have played in European competition 17 times (15 without counting the Intertoto Cup). The director is one of the key men in building Villarreal’s long-term project, which had its biggest reward to date so far on 26th May with the lifting of the UEFA Europa League title.
