Villarreal B dedicated the win over Andorra to José Manuel Llaneza

Villarreal B returned to winning ways thanks to a goal from Fer Niño that helped them beat Andorra at the Mini Estadi (1-0). It was an intense match, with a number of clear goalscoring and a high tempo.

The match was marked by the recent loss of Villarreal vice-president José Manuel Llaneza, who watched so many academy games at the training ground, which now bears his name. As was to be expected, a respectful minute’s silence was observed before kick-off.

The first half was very evenly matched and both teams had clear chances to score. Only a few minutes into the game, Andorra could have taken the lead through Héctor, but his shot went into the side netting. The B team also had a chance, with a long-range shot from Thiago Ojeda that went just wide.

In the 24th minute came Andorra’s best chance of the first half. Bakis hit a tremendous shot from close range and Filip Jorgensen made a spectacular reflex save.

Just before half-time it was the turn of the yellows. Diego Collado found himself alone in front of Raúl Lizoain, but Lizoain kept out the goal when the Mini Estadi was ready to celebrate a goal.

The Mini Submarine took the lead after the break. After a play with a number of rebounds, the ball ended up at the feet of Fer Niño inside the area and he made no mistake (1-0, m. 53).

From then until the end of the game, Villarreal B withstood their opponents’ attacks and could have scored on the counter-attack. The scoreboard would not budge and the reserve team took three golden points. Their next opponent will be Albacete away from home (Sunday, 9pm CEST).
