The Villarreal Manager believes the game against Espanyol was “very even”
Villarreal CF Manager, Fran Escribá, highlighted that the Submarine “created chances” to be able to take the win against Espanyol, but he also recognised that it was an even match between both sides: “The draw is not unfair. The match was well fought. Both teams dominated at different times, but overall, we were slightly better”.
The Yellows boss was disappointed not to come away with the win, but also pointed out the positive of the solid Submarine back line: “We went all out for the three points and we knew how to stop Espanyol, a team that lets you have possession and looks to catch you on the counterattack. We opted to make the pitch big and attack down the wings, but we weren’t clinical enough in the final metres. Despite that, on the positive side we’re remaining solid in defence”.
Escribá also praised the performance of Mariano Barbosa, who made some fine saves: “We know that he always does his job. He played well, as he has been in the last few matches”.
