Double tribute to the victims of Hillsborough

VILLARREAL CF

Footballers and fans sign the banner that will be placed at the Hillsborough Memorial

Villarreal CF and fans wanted to pay another tribute to the vicitims of the Hillsborough disaster. To do this, the First Team players and Yellows fans have signed the banner, held up at last Thursday’s match in the first leg of the UEFA Europa League Semi-final, to remember the 96 who passed away in that terrible disaster, all of whom were Liverpool fans.

On the banner the words ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ and the number ‘96’ were written in remembrance of the victims. All that is left is for Villarreal fans to do is place the banner at the Liverpool FC Hillsborough Memorial, as they travel to Liverpool this Thursday for the second leg at the legendary Anfield stadium (9:05pm CET).

The Hillsborough disaster happened on 15th April 1989 in Sheffield, when 96 people were crushed to death against the stadium’s fencing due to severe overcrowding in the away stand. The tragedy took place during the 1989 FA Cup Final between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest.

‘Fan Zone’ for Yellows fans in Liverpool

There will be a meeting point for Villarreal CF fans in the centre of Liverpool before this Thursday’s match. There, the ‘Celtic Submarí’ Fan Club have organised a ‘Fan Zone’ in Concert Square, where Yellows fans who wish to can sign the banner to pay tribute to the victims of Hillsborough. What’s more, there will be live music from 12pm to 6pm, after which Submarine fans will make their way to the stadium. Once there, the fans will leave the tribute banner at the Memorial dedicated to the victims of the Hillsborough disaster.
